Tamraght is a small, quiet, traditional Moroccan village that has embraced surf tourism. It is generally considered incredibly safe. Violent crime is virtually non-existent, and the local community is very welcoming to international guests.

The Atmosphere in Tamraght

Unlike large cities like Marrakech or Casablanca, Tamraght has a "small-town" feel. Everyone knows everyone. Because surf tourism is the primary economy here, locals are highly protective of tourists and want you to have a good experience.

Safety for Solo Female Travelers

Many solo female travelers choose Tamraght over Taghazout specifically for safety and peace of mind.

• Street Harassment: It is rare in Tamraght compared to bigger cities. You might get a friendly "hello" or an offer to buy tea, but aggressive haggling is not the culture here.
• Walking at Night: The main streets are safe to walk at night. However, like anywhere in the world, we recommend walking with a friend if you are heading down unlit dirt roads late at night.
• Dress Code: While Tamraght is used to tourists in surf gear, it is still a Muslim country. Walking in a bikini is fine on the beach, but when walking through the village, throwing a t-shirt or sarong on is a sign of basic respect.

Petty Crime & Valuables

Pickpocketing is extremely rare in Tamraght. The biggest risk is leaving valuables unattended on the beach while you surf. When you surf with a camp like Aurara, our coaches stay on the beach and watch your belongings.

The Stray Dogs

You will see many stray dogs in Tamraght and on the beaches. They are generally "community dogs" — very friendly, lazy, and used to tourists feeding them. They are not aggressive. If you don't like dogs, simply ignore them and they will ignore you.
